In order to measure intensity we need to have a scale, and that scale is Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE.) We’ll cover the history of RPE, how it is applied to training, the Reps in Reserve (RIR) scale, how the two scales relate, as well as some pros and cons of using RPE.
